February 23, 2021:  Nikita Williams, of Rotary District 7070's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee.

A top priority for Rotary is growing and diversifying our membership to make sure we reflect the communities we serve.

One of many important things she shared was the importance of active listening. That is listening to understand, not listening to respond.

We want people with differing perspectives and ideas who will help Rotary take action to create lasting change in communities around the world.

Nikita brought all of us up to speed on Rotary's core work to implement Rotary International's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement, and especially work here in our own District 7070.

The District 7070 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is working with the Rotary International Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, and with District 7070 Training, Public Image, and Membership Committees, to:
  • Contribute to the implementation of the RI Statement in District 7070 and to the relevant goals of the Rotary District 7070 Strategic Plan;
  • Enable District 7070 and clubs to grow and better reflect the communities we serve and to be inclusive of all cultures, experiences, and identities;
  • Develop policies and best practices to make our district and clubs more welcoming, inclusive, and appreciative of each other;
  • Provide opportunities to foster greater understanding and awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion matters, including training;
  • and, Initiate activities to publicly celebrate our district’s wide range of diverse members with an understanding that we are open to all.
